State of the Union

John showed his beautiful painting "State of the Union" in a group show recently.  I was excited because this has always been one of my favorite paintings.  It was definately the best in the show!  By coincidence, Obama gave his first State of the Union address a few nights later.

Dinner at David Salle's in Honor of Karole Armitage

A few weeks ago, John and I were invited to a Karole Armitage dance performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and then a dinner in her honor at the home of artist David Salle. It was pretty exciting for me considering David Salle was one of my art heros when I was in graduate school. Dinner was served in his studio which was very cool. It was also our first night out as Mr. and Mrs. John Newsom which was very exciting!

While talking to his neighbor, Barbara, at dinner, John discovered that she is the mother of the actress who played Janice on "Friends"!

Apple Picking and Art

John and I were invited to spend the day apple picking at the home of two art collectors in upstate New York today. We had the most amazing time!

We picked apples...

...and made apple cider! It was delicious!

Afterwards, we walked the grounds to see the couple's outdoor sculpture collection and soak up the wonderful country air.

This is actually a sculpture in the collection!

At the end of the day we were able to tour the couple's "art barn" on their estate which housed my favorite piece in the entire collection...the jelly doughnut painting!

Guggenheim with Bijon and Alexis

Today we went to the Guggenheim Museum to see the Kandinsky exhibit. It was amazing! We met one of John's friends from high school, Bijon, who was visiting the city with his girlfriend, Alexis. Afterwards, we had the most delicious Cuban dinner together. This is all of us in the museum cafe.

This is one of the Kandinsky paintings we saw today. It's always been one of my favorites!

Dinner in Peekskill

John and I went to a panel discussion and dinner at the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill tonight for an all Dutch artist exhibit titled, "Double Dutch". This was my favorite piece - a gas station constructed entirely of the artist's art book collection. It was pretty amazing.

Here's my sweetie at the dinner afterwards.

Dinner After the Opening

Soo Jin and the gallery staff at Patrick Painter put together a fabulous dinner after John's opening. We dined on the most delicious Mexican food dinner: Chicken Burritos, Cheese Enchiladas, Rice, Beans, Guacamole, Chips, Salad, and Chocolate Cupcakes for dessert. The tables were decorated in the spirit of John's paintings with brown tableclothes, red circles, and green succulent potted plants. It was a truly special night that we will never forget!

The beautiful, almost-to-pretty-to-eat, cupcakes that Soo Jin saved just for Claire, Joley and me. They were so delicious and decadant, but also tiny works of art!

Beyond the Horizon - John's Opening!

John's show, "Beyond the Horizon" opened at Patrick Painter Gallery in Santa Monica this past weekend. It was his best show ever and the most beautiful paintings I have ever seen.

The color paletter for our wedding was inspired by this painting, "Flowering Feathers".
