Saturday with Vera

My friend, Vera and I met up for brunch today.
Afterwards we walked around Chinatown and Little Italy.

We stumbled upon a huge street fair during our walk.
This looks like a large buffet of food, but actually, it is magnets made to look like food.

What a fun day!

Two Openings in One Weekend

Last night John and I went to a group show at Marc Jancou gallery where John was showing his amazing work on paper, "Ensemble". It was an amazing exhibit and John's piece was by far the best in the show!

John and Bob stand in front of "Ensemble". Bob will be one of John's groomsmen in our wedding next year.
Ion, another one of John's groomsmen, came to see the show.
What a cute couple!
Ion, Bob, and John
Justin Lieberman (another artist in the show) and John ham it up for the camera at the dinner after the show.
Looking good...but I'm getting a little sleepy!I had to drink cappucino with my dinner to stay lively.

The following morning, we have coffee before John gets on a plane to head for Los Angeles for another group show at Patrick Painter gallery. Peace out!

Evacuating Baytown

My mom and Richard packed up yesterday and headed to College Station to avoid Hurricane Ike. I've been glued to the TV here in New York watching this huge storm, so I'm really relieved that they were able to leave Baytown. I know they will be safe in College Station, but I'm hoping their backyard, shown in the picture, can hold up to whatever winds and damage Ike brings its way!

John and Cassie's Sunday Funday

The weather in New York was absolutely beautiful today. The sun was shining and the air was cool and breezy. What better day for John and I to spend together. We went to the Prince Street Cafe for breakfast first.
John and I were walking down the street when we noticed our shadows and how cute we looked holding hands. My big zebra bag on my hip made it look like I was wearing a ball gown.
We walked past Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker...mmm...cupcakes!

John couldn't resist a red velvet cupcake.
We sat in the park so John could eat his cupcake...
...and I could drink my iced coffee. Mmmm...cream cheese frosting is yummy!
We spent the rest of the afternoon window shopping all over SoHo. The window display at this curiosity shop was filled with all things Frida Khalo and Day of the Dead. Hi Cassie!!

Going to the Met

Today I met my friend Chau, from Houston, for lunch and a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This is one of my top three favorite Matisse paintings...I love this painting!!

This is another favorite by Matisse because it reminds me so much of my grandmother (Louise).

Here are some of my other favorites...

More Met pics

More of my favorite paintings (and sculptures) from the Met... I had never seen this piece before...it is a man's face made from women's black shoes. So cool!

Recent New York Pics

Impromptu pic that John and I took of ourselves on the street a couple of weeks ago. Having coffee with John at Cafe Henri...they serve their coffee in bowls!
This is a little shop on our street...I love the zebra print! Girl Props has all kinds of fun costume jewelry and colorful, glittery, girly things.
And for Dad and everyone curious about where we live now...this is our apartment building!
