John's Night Out in NYC

Here are some pictures from the other night when John was out with some friends after a benefit dinner. Below is a cool shot of Columbus Circle. John is shown here laughing it up with his NY dealer, Marc.

This is a totally sweet shot of John. You are so cute Sweetie!!! I love you!!!!

And here is John's friend, Matt (Dillon).
: )

New Shoes!

I LOVE these shoes! They were also a gift from my friend Soo Jin.

Two new dresses

Here are two new super cute dresses that were also sent to me by my friend Soo Jin. They are both turquoise...my favorite color to wear! I love the superhero-esque design on the dress to the left (hence the superhero pose.) I also love the bow and diagonal stripes on the dress above. What an amazing gift! Thank you so much Soo Jin!

John's New York Pic of the Day

This is the sculpture of Theodore Roosevelt in front of the Museum of Natural History in New York. John took this today on his cell phone.
Personally, this is one of my favorite museums in New York. The amazing dioramas (miniature and life-size) are my favorite things to see at this museum.

Olive's Treat Jar

This is the treat jar for doggies at Olive's, a little coffee and sandwich shop in Soho on Prince Street. John and I really love this place and get coffee here often. They have the best lattes!

John took this picture with his cell phone the other day when he came here for a sandwich and coffee.

Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

Here are the cookies about 20 minutes after coming out of the oven. They were rolled in sugar just before baking which gives them a nice texture.

Soho Food Cart

This is a picture of a food cart in Soho that John took on his cell phone a few weeks ago. He sent the picture to me in a text message and then my next door neighbor, Kristina, taught me how to forward the picture to my email account where I can save it to my laptop. I was so excited to learn how to do this.

I love this picture, by the way! This is going to be my neighborhood with John in less than than 2 months. I'm so excited!

Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients for Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies from "Martha Stewart's Cookies."

Watermelon

A teacher friend at school is always talking about how much she loves to eat fresh watermelon and the other day she brought it to lunch duty and shared some with me. It was so good that I made a point to buy a seedless watermelon today to eat this week.

Cassie and John Pic of the Day

December 2002 - Our first Christmas together. This was taken the night John met my mom and Richard for the first time at their house in Baytown.

Georgie Pic of the Day

Calypso

I was watching the movie "Enchanted" the other day and got really excited when I saw the scene below. Giselle and the little girl, Morgan, go shopping in this store, Calypso, in New York. I realized it was the very same location where I got this turquoise dress. John and I went there last summer so I could get something to wear to his group show at Patrick Painter in L.A. that August. I just happened to have a picture of the dress because I took a picture of myself in the hotel that night just before the opening.

It's kind of a cool feeling recognizing places you've been in New York in movies and TV.

Georgie Pic of the Day

New Skirt

I bought this skirt at Marshall's a few weeks ago with a gift card that Mom and Richard gave me for my birthday. This was taken on Thursday, the first day I wore the skirt.

Farewell Long Distance

John and I have visited each other twice since this photo was taken about 5 months ago and we still have about 3 weeks to go before we see each other again. After that, only a few weeks remain before we bid FAREWELL to the long distance forever!
I love you Sweetie!!!

Georgie Smiling

Here is my cute Georgie pic of the day. She is such a little sweetheart!

Aggie Muster

Aggie Muster is a yearly tradition at A&M in which all the Aggies that died in the previous year are honored. Granddaddy was an Aggie (c/0 '48) and having died last October, had a candle lit in his honor at the service.

In this picture, Mom and Richard look at Granddaddy's table in the Reflections room at the MSC.
The Century Singers, Singing Cadets, Women's Chorus, and Reveliers sing the Prelude at the beginning of the Muster service.Mom and Richard sit in the crowd before the service. Lizzie got to hold the candle that was lit for Granddaddy since she is a current student. She still has a few tears in her eyes after the service. Lizzie drove us around town during the day before the service. I think she looks so pretty in this picture! Lizzie, Richard, and Cassie in the Flag Room at the MSC.

Tallulah (Lizzie's roommate's dog) and Georgie had fun playing together.

Zebra bag

Here I am posing with the new zebra bag my mom and Richard gave me for my birthday and trying out the timer on my digital camera for the first time. Behind me is a beautiful painting of a day lily that John painted in 2004.

You Are What You Eat - Day 3

Here are the two fruit and veggie portraits finished! After the faces were colored, students cut them out, glued them to a color-coordinated sheet of construction paper and then cut out again.

Confetti Chili and Strawberry Ice Cream

Tonight I made Confetti Chili from "The Food You Crave" by Ellie Krieger (thanks Jena!) and strawberry ice cream in my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. The chili was really delicious and the strawberry ice cream (although still firming in the freezer) is fabulous!

Teacher Appreciation Portraits

My fourth and fifth grade art students drew portraits of teachers at school for a "Teacher Appreciation" bulletin board. Here is my portrait, drawn by one of my fifth grade girls. I think it's so cute and is a good likeness.

Rosemary Butter Cookies

Tonight I made the most delicious cookies from the new Martha Stewart cookie cook book that Leslie sent to me in the mail recently. These were Rosemary Butter cookies and they are salty and sweet and crispy and crumbly.

Squirrel on the porch

It was a gorgeous day in Houston today! I had the back porch door open all day to let in the fresh breeze. At one point during the day I looked outside and saw a squirrel sitting on the edge of that round flower pot in the center of the picture. I quietly tip-toed to get my camera and when I came back, it had moved, but I still managed to get a picture of it just before it took off down the stairs. You can see it's head just above the oregano at the bottom.

I love the light in this picture. It really was an amazing day!

Saffron

John and I had a bet over Spring Break in New York over whether Saffron threads were red or yellow. He said they were red and I said yellow and whoever was right owed the other a backrub or footrub. We found Saffron at Whole Foods to settle the bet, but we couldn't see it because it was wrapped in a black plastic bag. So here is a picture that I found that shows there are both red and yellow threads. So we both win the bet Sweetie!

Spicy poetry

This is the shelf above my stove where I keep some of my spices and where I like to write magnetic poetry. This is also where my magnetic John sits so he's with me while I cook. I wrote these two short poems using the poetry magnets that Leslie put in my Easter basket. I think they're kind of pretty.

I dazzle softly in my heart for you.
We imagine in glass harmony.
I didn't have the word "heart", so I had to put "he" and "art" together which I think is an interesting play on words since I'm referring to John in the poem.

You Are What You Eat - Day 2

Here are the drawings after the students had another day to work on them. Today they outlined their drawings and began adding color. Next, they are going to cut out the face, mount it to construction paper, and cut away the construction paper to leave a border around the edge.

I don't think the chin is wheat afterall...it looks more like spinach now. I love the carrot hair! I love the symmetry and balance in this drawing and I like how the student drew the fruits and vegetables large, leaving very little extra space

Peek-a-boo

Georgie is being such a good girl in this picture while the chicken is cooking. She is supposed to stay in the office while I'm cooking and that is exactly what she is doing in the picture. I love how she's just barely peeking out above the chicken.

My new yellow sandals

I bought these Steve Madden sandals at Marshalls last Christmas for $7 and I have just started wearing them since the weather has been so nice. I have worn them to school for the last three days and have really been enjoying them. I love the color and the gold button and the organic shape, and they are actually more comfortable than I expected!
